Rage 2 was released earlier this year, and soon it'll get it's second expansion in the form of the Rage 2 Terrormania DLC - a slightly belated Halloween special version of the game. However, it's a little puzzling whether certain players have access to this expansion or not, or whether even Deluxe Edition owners have to get the Rage 2 Terrormania Digital Deluxe Upgrade.
The Terrormania expansion has a release date of November 14, but it doesn't seem clear if owners of the Rage 2 Deluxe Edition get it included for free or not. Let's have a look.
Rage 2 Terrormania Digital Deluxe Upgrade - is it the same as the Deluxe Edition?
The Rage 2 Terrormania DLC introduces a Doom-like alternate version of the Wastelands called the Deadlands, in a twisted underworld with new skeletal enemies and a cool sword that you can unleash superpowers with. It sounds a lot of fun, but how do you get it?
In the Bethesda post describing the expansion, the publisher says that players can get the DLC from the "in-game store for 500 RAGE Coins ($5), or pick up the Digital Deluxe Upgrade for 1750 RAGE Coins ($17.50)". So you can buy Terrormania separately, but what's this "Digital Deluxe Upgrade"? Is it the same as the Rage 2 Deluxe Edition?
Sadly, the answer seems to be no - they are not the same. The Deluxe Edition contains the following:
- Rise of the Ghosts Expansion
- Doom BFG
- Wasteland Wizard Cheat Codes
- Battle Standard
- Progress Booster
The new Digital Deluxe Upgrade, however, contains these items:
- RAGE 2: TerrorMania expansion
- Cult of the Death God mission
- Reaper Assault Rifle weapon skin
- Wasteland Celebrity Phoenix vehicle skin
- Mutant Monster Truck vehicle skin
A completely different set of rewards, as you can see. Basically then, even if you own the Rage 2 Deluxe Edition, if you want the Terrormania expansion you will have to pay for it. We're actually shocked at the price of this Digital Deluxe Upgrade - if it only contains the items listed above, and Terrormania is $5 separately, then is three skins and the pre-order mission worth $17.50?
If you're not fussed, and own the Deluxe Edition, you'll have to pick up 500 Rage 2 Coins and buy Terrormania from the in-game store - when it's available on November 14. Yes, it's a complicated way to do things, and is probably to avoid sales.
