Ring of Elysium is only gaining in popularity as time goes by, and the new update which includes a brand new Mediterranean map, grappling hook, and other assorted goodies, is only going to help ROE in getting even more popular.
Ring of Elysium performance issues are a major downer, however, and it would seem that the game isn't running well. ROE is still in Early Access so it makes sense that optimisation wouldn't be perfect, but since that's not very helpful on its own, we've got some Ring of Elysium Low FPS Tips to share, too.
Ring of Elysium performance tweaks come in a wide variety of forms, the most important of which will require some editing of the game's configuration files. It's not that problematic, though, and it might squeeze an additional couple of frames from the game.
Ring of Elysium Ingame Performance Tweaks
As the saying goes, keep things on the down-low in this regard. It's a given that you should turn down or turn off virtually all the bells and whistles if a game isn't running well, but an additional tip would be to run ROE at a lower resolution than is native for your screen.
For a simple example, if you're playing on a native 1366x768 screen, turn the resolution down to 1280x720 for a minimal difference in how the game looks, though one that might result in a considerable performance increase.
Ring of Elysium Nvidia Control Panel Performance Tweaks
The Nvidia Control Panel is a tad more complex and intimidating than the game settings are, but if you stick with what you know, it's hard to go wrong with turning stuff down.
Keep in mind that, if Ring of Elysium is the only game you play that has performance issues, you can create a dedicated game profile with settings specific for ROE in particular.
Be sure to use the following settings:
Anisotropic Filtering: OFF
Antialiasing - FXAA: OFF
Antialiasing - Gamma: OFF
Antialiasing - Mode: OFF
Max Pre-Rendered Frames: 1
Tex. Filtering - Anisotropic: ON
Tex. Filtering - Negative LOD: ALLOW
Tex. Filtering - Quality: HIGH PERFORMANCE
Threaded Optimisation: AUTO
Triple Buffering: OFF
VSync: OFF
Ring of Elysium Configuration File Performance Tweaks
Comparatively, these are the most technically demanding tweaks, though they've also got the potential to improve your frame rate the most. Older gamers will assuredly remember modifying their .ini files in Unreal Engine 3 titles, and this is really not different at all.
What you want to do is go to your ROE installation folder. The easiest way to go about this is to select the 'local files' option via your Steam interface. When you're there, open the 'UserData' folder, and find EuSytemSettingsConfigCurrent.xml. Create a backup copy of this particular file.
When that's done, open the original .xml file, and find the following lines:
iVegetationShadowQualityScalar
iVegetationLodScalar
iVegetationDensity
Change their values from 2 to 1, which ought to reduce the game's visuals even further than is possible via the settings pannel, while theoretically improving the performance. Your mileage may vary, however.
If you muck things up, just revert to the backup file and you're good to go!
That about covers all the performance tweaks that we know of so far, but rest assured that we'll keep checking and updating this article as more methods of increasing ROE framerate become known, so stay tuned.
