Something big is coming to Tempest Rising. With its next update, the fantastic RTS game will receive superweapons which aim to add a new layer of strategy and destruction.
The announcement arrived on November 26 through an official Steam blog post by developer Slipgate Ironworks, who is now preparing for substantial content updates to make a great RTS title even better.
Both the GDF and Tempest Dynasty factions are getting some love in the shape of the Drone Strike Station and the Excavator Platform, and we already know what each superweapon does:
-
GDF’s Drone Strike Station is a building which provides a “massive vision radius” around itself passively. Once it’s fully charged and activated, it calls a massive drone strike on the selected grid coordinates which causes massive damage in the surrounding area and then deploys nine drone turrets that stay operational for one minutes (or less if they’re destroyed). Moreover, the turrets can also deploy up to three combat drones.
-
Dynasty’s Excavator Platform is a “siege engine” which garrisons up to 18 units into armor-plated drill pods which travel below the earth and can emerge behind enemy lines, making them perfect for surprise attacks. Its ultimate ability is the Combat Excavator, a destructive machine which causes an earthquake at the designated position before unloading the garrisoned units “at the epicenter of the attack.”
Needless to say, these additions to Tempest Rising’s already impressive roster of buildings, units, and tools are expected to be massive “game changers” (as said by the developer), so it’ll be interesting to see how the community reacts to them and puts them to good (or bad) use once the next free content update, which is still undated, drops.
