Publisher Daedalic Entertainment and developer Gamexcite have given us a closer look at Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown’s space battles thanks to a combat deep dive trailer detailing the team’s philosophy when approaching this part of its strategy survival game.
The developer took inspiration from both the TV show and games using the IP, like Starfleet Command and Bridge Commander, while keeping the “central power fantasy” of being a ship captain in mind.

This led to a system in which rather than controlling the ship ourselves, Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown’s space battles see us reacting to developing situations by issuing orders to our crew.
Having access to a radial order menu, we can engage in offensive and defensive actions as well as repairs. Proper positioning plays a key role in emerging victorious, as different subsystems are found on different parts of ships.
When behind an enemy, issuing an order to hit their front weapons, promts the crew to fly the Voyager in a position that allows its weaponry to target the enemy’s.
Shields protecting different parts of the ship regenerate individually, which means that, although our crew will fire on other parts of the ship while they move, they may not be able to fully deplete them.
Defend actions help protect vulnerable parts of the Voyager by ordering its crew to move it around, placing damaged parts out of harm’s way. This allows the shields to recharge while also enabling us to order repairs for damaged subsystems.
Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown’s combat deep dive trailer also highlights how certain weapons behave differently. Phasers can pierce shields, dealing some damage to the target even while they’re active. Torpedoes, on the other hand, can only damage the hull once the shields are depleted.
Furthermore, given how torpedoes come in limited amounts and timing them is important, we control when they’re fired.
Disabling an enemy warp engines or charging its cloaking device allows the Voyager to flee combat, but surrender is also an option when push comes to shove, trading resources for the chance to see another day.
Before each space battle, we can select up to three crew members who offer us various abilities that we can activate. Properly timing these can give us an advantage.
Developer Gamexcite describes space battles as “a small part” of Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown, but the combat deep dive trailer does show that we will need to channel our inner captains to survive the Delta Quadrant.
Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown launches on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 18, 2026.
