It's undoubtedly clear that the latest big gaming fad is that of battle royale games. Everyone and their mum's making one, it seems, but the market can only ever support so many. Stormdivers, the upcoming battle-royale from the developers of console-exclusive Resogun, hopes to be one of the successful few.
Stormdivers is set in a near-future dystopia where special operatives (the titular Stormdivers) are dispatched into a recurring nano-storm that has engulfed an entire island, and which devours everything in sight. A pretty basic premise, far as battle royales are concerned, really.
What this means in practical, gameplay terms, is that Stormdivers is likely to rely more heavily on its environmental and atmospheric features to make for more interesting gameplay opportunities than we are used to. Good stuff, if executed well.
Developers have promised to include some sort of a meta-game into Stormdivers, as well as an actual PvE cooperative mode of play. Will this be enough to differentiate the game from its competition, though? It's certainly too early to say, but one can only hope so.
As it stands, Stormdivers is planned to see release sometime in 2019, and is being developed in the concurrent version of Unreal Engine.
