Syberia: The World Before is the title of the next Syberia point ‘n’ click adventure, and it’s being worked on by the legendary comic artist Benoît Sokal and Microids, the developers of all the previous Syberia games.
The World Before is going to follow the adventures of series’ protagonist Kate Walker as she travels through both time and space in classic Syberia fashion. The title does give it away a bit, we feel.
Penned by Sokal, the original Syberia released in 2002 to great acclaim, with critics praising the game both for its intelligent script and its visual style, among other things. Its follow-up, Syberia II, launched in 2004, with Syberia 3 releasing much later, in 2017. The series hasn’t skipped a beat yet, which is why there’s a good reason to be excited about The World Before.
“Two years after the release of the last episode, we understand that fans are curious and eager to discover the next installment of the adventure from our much-loved Kate Walker,” said Elliot Grassiano, Microids’ Vice-President. “The game is already under development and we are delighted to be reunited with Benoît Sokal’s unique universe.”
According to Grassiano, The World Before is going to let us learn more about Walker herself - through the lens of Syberia’s over-arching storyline: “This latest adventure will offer fans of the series a chance to learn more about our heroine and re-immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the first games.”
With so few traditional point ‘n’ click games coming out nowadays, fans of the genre are definitely going to want to keep an eye out for The World Before.
