What’s the Tears of Metal Release Date? Tears of Metal is the next game from indie studio Paper Cult, a medieval hack-and-slash co-op roguelike. If you’ve always wanted a Dynasty Warriors-like action epic packed with tactical elements and sporting a Scottish spin and cartoony visuals, you’re probably wondering about its release date!
The bloody reveal trailer debuted during the packed Summer Game Fest 2024 showcase and stunned us with a striking mix of real-time combat, large-scale battles, and tactical elements that could make the roguelike structure a bit less repetitive. It’s been a while since we were so surprised by a new take on the roguelite elements that permeate so many modern indie releases.
Tears of Metal Release Date
There’s no release date set for Tears of Metal, so stay tuned for updates, but Paper Cult says it’s coming in 2025 unless the studio hits unexpected road bumps. For now, you can wishlist it on Steam and we will keep you alert when its release date is revealed.
Tears of Metal Gameplay
Tears of Metal has been envisioned as a four-player co-op hack-and-slash experience first and foremost, but single-player appears to be a viable option. For the most part, you’ll destroy hordes of enemies “to reclaim your island with the help of your formidable Scottish battalion.” There’s an enemy invasion that needs to be repelled, but mystery seems to be at the center of the premise too, and the plot includes a fallen meteor.
New troops must be recruited between battles, and upgrades and mighty powers will raise your troops’ chances of success against the invaders. Paper Cult teases we can “choose from multiple unique playable heroes” and “create distinctive and devastating builds,” with soldiers also gaining skills between campaigns, which are permanent. However, there appears to be a hardcore element to this system, as fallen soldiers will be “lost forever.”
Unsurprisingly, permanent upgrades also apply a settlement which can be expanded to access “new shops” and new challenges that yield “greater rewards.” Players who pay attention to secondary tasks will be rewarded with new characters, artifacts, and cosmetics that give their armies a special visual flair.
The recent Triple-i Interactive Showcase revealed the first public Open Beta for Tears of Metal, which went live from April 10th to April 17th. We hope you had some time to check it out.
“More playtests are coming in the months ahead and we hope you’ll be there!”
Tears of Metal can be found on Steam. No other platforms were confirmed, but we will keep you posted if there are any developments.
