The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is the next game from the developers behind the Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages series. This time around, it’s all about co-op adventures into the heart of a cursed jungle.
Based on The Mound, a novella by H.P. Lovecraft and many of his other dark stories, this game throws a group of Spaniards deep into the tropical forest as they seek old riches while avoiding not just predictable physical horrors, but also hallucinations and tricks that can turn friends into enemies. It’s a refreshing take on first-person co-op action games, and here’s everything we know about it so far.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Release Date
Though publisher Nacon had initially set a late 2025 release window for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, we’re expecting a launch deep into 2026 now.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Story
Story specifics haven’t been shared yet, but here’s what the official game description on Steam tells us about the setting and basic premise:
“The Mound is inspired by the stories of H.P. Lovecraft with their oppressive and unpredictable atmospheres. Here, the supernatural forces don’t just hunt you down: they distort your perception of every situation to throw you off balance. Faced with diabolical creatures and unexplained phenomena, the border that separates reality from illusion blurs, sowing doubt and paranoia among your group.”
Those looking for answers in The Mound, Lovecraft’s novella, might be disappointed, as the story (which he worked on as a ghostwriter) is about a Native American mound haunted by a headless ghost. It does, however, have a story within the story which follows the exploits of a Spaniard who found a gigantic underground world full of wonders and horrors. This latter part of the novella has partially defined the places and horrors that we’ll come across.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Gameplay
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu looks like a traditional co-op action-adventure game on the surface, but the devs at ACE Team are known for their off-beat game design ideas, and so far, it seems this one will have its own unique take on the genre.
Expeditions are meant to take a while, and while rushing through enemies, completing objectives, collecting riches, and legging it back to the galleon sounds simple enough, the main gimmick appears to be the inclusion of hallucinations, weird phenomena, and a distorted perception of your surroundings the further you and your allies venture into the jungle and the underground world.
Needless to say, the end result sounds equal parts disturbing and potentially funny, so we’re really curious to see how it all comes together.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Price and Platforms
Nacon hasn’t set a price tag for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu yet, but it’s confirmed it’ll be launching on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 when it arrives in 2026.
Even though the PC version will predictably be limited to the digital format, we know current-gen consoles will receive a physical release too.
