Publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly today announced that the long-awaited Total War: Medieval 3 is currently “in early pre-production.”
The title aims to bring about the “rebirth of historical Total War,” promising to be “both a tribute to its predecessors and a bold step forward.”
Total War: Medieval 3 Announced
The developer chose to announce its next major historical release this early in order to engage with the community as development progresses.
Total War: Medieval III doesn’t currently have a set start date, but the studio aims to depict the high to late medieval era with its major players.
The sequel plans on allowing us to rewrite history, taking inspiration from past entries in the series while evolving it.
The team behind it aims to make the early and late stages of a playthrough feel “dramatically different,” both because of our actions and those of the AI.
It also plans to ground the core mechanics in the actual history of the era, naturally, without sacrificing fun as it works towards making the “ultimate medieval strategy sandbox.”
Given how Total War: Medieval III is currently in early development, concrete details are scarce. The title will likely benefit from the studio’s upgraded engine. More details will be shared as the third entry in the sub-series continues to take shape.
