Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch Notes - Mandate of Heaven 1.4.0 Update

Total War: Three Kingdoms’ 1.4.0 update is now live accompanying the Mandate of Heaven DLC. A look at the patch notes reveals the addition of Tao Qian as a playable character, deployables, siege engines and more.

The free 1.4.0 update comes with a hefty number of additions and bugfixes that complement Total War: Three Kingdoms’ latest Mandate of Heaven DLC, while also fixing a number of issues brought up by the game’s community.

Here are the highlights of Total War: Three Kingdoms’ 1.4.0 update:

• The introduction of Tao Qian as a playable character
• Lu Zhi, Huangfu Song, Diao Chan, and Xun Yu are all now legendary characters
• New battle features and abilities, including deployables and siege engines
• Emperor ownership and rank mechanics updates
• Unit, weapon, and projectile balance changes to promote new battlefield roles.
• Various bug fixes

Tao Qian is available as a Free-LC for all owners of Total War: Three Kingdoms, regardless if they’ve purchased Mandate of Heaven or not.

Playable in both the new 182 CE and original 190 CE start dates, his playstyle revolves around helping those fleeing from war. This is reflected in his unique Displaced Population resource.

Every faction’s actions contribute towards Displaced Population. At low levels, Tao Qian gains bonuses to public order, satisfaction and peasantry income. High levels offer reduced building construction time, shorter unit mustering time and reduced recruitment cost for militia units, all at the cost of food production at the commandery level.

Deployables usable on the field of battle can now be researched, giving players access to defensive towers that fire arrows at enemies but can be captured or destroyed, wooden stakes for your anti-cavalry needs and deployable oil which can be lit as enemies pass over it.
