Total War: Warhammer 3's Kislev faction acts as an icy bulwark against the onslaught of the four Chaos Gods' forces that seek to consume everything. Hailing from the cold north, fielding sturdy warriors, and having mastered ice magic, it is also the first launch faction that publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly have shown in more detail.
Tzarina Katarin Bokha leads Kislev in Total War: Warhammer 3. As one of the most powerful Ice Witches to have ever lived, she makes use of both devastating spells while relying on her magical sword - Frostfang - when forced into melee combat.
Kislev's units are then defined by versatility, excelling at "drawing in enemy troops in the hope of them losing cohesion and strength and seek to crush them in a final devastating clash, where their hybrid missile infantry will stand firm as an anvil of brave troops while their cavalry hammer into the flanks of the enemy."
Three things to note here that automatically grant Kislev extra cool points: their infantry's axes are also guns; they field bear cavalry that looks as terrifyingly awesome as it sounds; they also have a massive ice bear construct, which you could see fighting a Bloodthirster in last week's gameplay reveal.
Complementing their units are two new lores of magic. The Lore of Ice is described as "the raw, murderous power of cold, harnessed as a weapon, from frozen ground that binds to the foe’s feet to lances of icy death." The Lore of Tempests grants its wielder power over the weather and abilities such as conjuring furious blizzards to complicate things for your enemies.
More information about the launch factions' roster and legendary lords will be shared starting with tomorrow, May 19, over on the game's website, but you can get a look at Kislev in the trailer embedded below.
