If you were half-excited and half-worried about Saber Interactive’s Turok: Origins after its flashy reveal trailer, maybe you’ll find some peace after learning it’ll feature a bespoke first-person camera mode.
The surprise reboot for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S of one of gaming’s most iconic first-person shooter series was one of The Game Awards 2024’s biggest shocks, and while we’ve been quite optimistic about Saber Interactive’s output for some time now, we admit the decision to go with a third-person view was eyebrow-raising to say the least.
Now, as we rapidly approach the one-year anniversary of the announcement, press members were able to play a bit of the reboot at Gamescom 2025, and Gamespot has been able to confirm (via Instagram) Saber has decided to also include a first-person view mode which can be used with a quick D-pad button press.
On top of that, Gamespot’s video report also states they’ve been told by Saber’s representatives this alternative camera mode has been “built from the ground up” with specific animations, such as replacing evasive rolls with traditional FPS dashes. It’s unclear if this was always the plan or a late-game addition following online criticism of the switch to third-person, but it’s safe to say more veterans will be willing to wishlist the game after hearing about this addition.
Little else is known at this point about Turok: Origins beyond what we saw in the reveal trailer, which you can watch below, but it appears this new adventure will be fully playable solo or co-op, with the biggest new feature being the ability to use the fallen enemies’ DNA thanks to an advanced suit.
