They may not be all-time classics, but these modern RTS titles are going cheap enough to pique your curiosity.
Frontier Developments’ Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin and The Great War: Western Front are now at their lowest prices yet.
A Double Dose of RTS for a Steal
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin sees players become a warlord of one of four factions as they embark on a campaign of brutal conquest in the wild and savage Realm of Ghur.
The game boasts procedurally generated wildlands to offer all kinds of permutations in battle, and a creation suite to let players build their own maps, and even create their own digital Warhammer dioramas.
Steam reviews have been mixed, but there’s a consensus that it’s worth it at a discount. An 80% reduction to just £9.99 will certainly help sway a few RTS fans put off by the game’s lukewarm reception.
Petroglyph’s The Great War: Western Front is going even cheaper. It’s currently just £5.99 for the base game or £6.99 for the Victory Edition.
The developer of this intense WWI grand strategy game has a great pedigree with Command & Conquer Remastered and Star Wars: Empire at War under its belt. In this game, players take on the role of Field Commander of the Allied Nations or the Central Powers in an endlessly replayable campaign where it’s promised that no two playthroughs will have the same outcomes.
There’s a real eye for detail, with degradation of battlefields over time, and an extensive document of WWI history used as the backdrop for skirmishes.
It’s a bit feature-light considering how much it boasts, and naturally, it doesn’t quite stack up to the greats of the RTS genre, but for that price, it’s worth a shot.
