How do you download Vanguard Anti-Cheat? Valorant and League of Legends are now taking advantage of Riot’s proprietary Vanguard anti-cheat software to maintain a hack-free gaming environment. But how can you download it?
From what we can tell, Riot’s Vanguard anti-cheat software can only be downloaded as part of the process of installing Valorant or League of Legends on your machine. It will automatically download if you already have these games installed.
Riot Vanguard Anti-Cheat for League of Legends and Valorant
At present, there isn’t a standalone download source available for the Vanguard anti-cheat software. Consequently, if you don’t already have access to Valorant, you’ll need to wait before being able to install it, as it will be downloaded from the client. The same happens for League of Legends.
Why can’t I play Battlefield 6 because of Vanguard?
If you want to uninstall Valorant’s Vanguard anti-cheat software, you must head to Control Panel -> Uninstall a program, then look for Riot Vanguard and click uninstall. If you’ve been playing Battlefield 6 and have either League of Legends or Valorant installed, you may need to do this before you can play it!
The head of Riot Games’ anti-cheat team Phillip Koskinas confirmed the news on Twitter,, suggesting that there’s a conflict between EA’s Javalin anti-cheat and Riot’s Vanguard anti-cheat.
Riot Vanguard now also has an icon appearing in the system tray while running. Players can use the icon to turn off the anti-cheat software; however, doing so will render them unable to play Valorant or League of Legends until they restart their PC.
The system tray icon also allows you to uninstall Riot Vanguard by right-clicking on it, hovering over More, and selecting Uninstall Vanguard.
Should you choose to uninstall it, Valorant or League of Legends will automatically reinstall Vanguard the next time you boot it up.
Currently, turning Vanguard off or uninstalling it is the only way of getting around it blocking specific software on your PC.
