Publisher and developer Fatshark has deployed Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s Beyond the Hive update, giving us the opportunity to slaughter heretics outside of Hive Tertium for the very first time in the brand new Expeditions game mode.
The mode features a more open-ended approach than the missions we’re already familiar with, tasking us with collecting valuable Tech-Remnants while dispatching or avoiding enemy patrols. We do this while under a time limit and the risk of losing everything we gather, provided we fail to extract in time or die, resulting in some fairly high-stakes gameplay.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s Beyond the Hive update also introduces a series of new penances alongside the Deadside Patrol limited-time event, both revolving around playing the Expeditions mode. The latter rewards us with a new portrait frame for extracting enough Tech-Remnants.
Two new enemies are also lurking about, for now exclusively in the Expeditions mode. The lumbering Ogryn Pack Master inflicts “higher Stamina cost and lower Stamina regeneration for 10 seconds,” while the Armored Poxhound appears exclusively alongside the pack master and “is a bit slower and heavier than its unarmoured version.”
A series of class and weapon balance changes have also been deployed alongside Darktide’s Beyond the Hive update. The Hive Scum talent tree benefits from a new layout, while the Ogryn’s Point Blank Barrage has received buffs to hopefully make it more attractive.
Accompanying Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s Beyond the Hive update is a new set of Twitch Drops as well as several bug fixes, which you can check out over on Steam, where the developer has shared the full patch notes.
The steady stream of additions, both free and paid, received by Fatshark’s latest effort over the course of the past months indicates a much healthier title than we were met with at launch and we can only hope that they continue into the future.
