As Housemarque’s latest PS5 shooter gem arrives, we look into whether or not Saros will join its predecessor, Returnal, on PC.
Housemarque had been making a steady stream of relatively humble bullet hell-inspired shooters for PlayStation for some time before it got the chance to produce a gorgeous tentpole blockbuster in 2021’s Returnal, and to this day, it’s one of PS5’s best console exclusive titles.
So when the Finnish developer revealed its next game, Saros, in February 2025, the excitement levels were at their highest ever for a Housemarque game.
The game sees Soltari Enforcer Arjun Devraj (played by Rahul Kohli) and his team of colonists exploring the incredibly hostile planet of Carcosa, which is bathed in a perpetual eclipse that constantly reshapes the landscape of the planet.
The gameplay builds on the agile 3D bullet hell arcade action of Returnal and peppers it with an array of new features and a (relatively) more forgiving structure.
Thankfully, it looks like those aforementioned excitement levels were matched by game quality as Saros debuted with an impressive 88/100 average score across 104 reviews on PS5.
But what about PC players? Housemarque’s previous game, Returnal, eventually made the jump to PC in 2023 and ended up with the same average review score of 86/100 as the PS5 version. Surely Saros will head on over to PC one day as well?
Saros PC Version Future is Uncertain
It’s fair to say that whatever the eventual answer is regarding whether or not Saros will get a PC release, it was always unlikely to be announced any time soon.
When Saros director Gregory Louden was quizzed by Game Informer about a PC version of the game, he certainly wasn’t offering any hints of it, saying,“Today we’re only talking about Saros and the launch on the PlayStation 5.”
So understandably, those involved in Saros are keeping tight-lipped about any potential PC release, but there’s been no flat-out denial that it’ll happen either. Going off the past few years, it looks like we’ll have to wait and see.
But there’s potentially a fly in the ointment that wasn’t there before. Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that PlayStation was pulling back from releasing its console exclusives on PC. So while the likes of the Last of Us Part 1, God of War, Days Gone, and Returnal all took a trip to home computers, it seems like Saros and recent hits such as Ghost of Yotei will not be following suit.
Now, PlayStation hasn’t officially announced this is the case, so it’s not impossible that Saros eventually comes to PC. You could understand the change in tack, though. As the console market shifts and changes due to rising costs for console makers, it’s being passed on to the consumer with price hikes happening for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S nearly six years into the current generation. Exclusivity means more again when the price of entry is so high.
So, for a while at least, it’s likely Saros and other ‘homegrown’ PS5 titles will not be looking at PC ports as a priority.
