World of Warcraft: Shadowlands' Update 9.0.5 is now available on the PTR, adding Valor Points as a response to the community's feedback on endgame rewards. While the Great Vault does offer more choices in terms of weekly rewards, upgradeable Mythic Keystone gear (Mythic+) marks the first step to soften the blow of the current low drop rates.
With the addition of Valor points in Update 9.0.5, Blizzard aims "to find a way for the loot from the chest at the end of a challenging Mythic Keystone run to feel relevant, without bringing back random upgrade systems such as Warforging," while also providing "a more consistent reward" for players who do not receive a piece of gear after completing a Mythic+ dungeon.
To this extent, players can upgrade Mythic+ gear up to an initial item level cap of 200. Completing all 8 dungeons in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands at Mythic 5 or higher raises the cap to 207 while rewarding you with the Keystone Explorer achievement. Completing them at Mythic 10 and 15 increases the ilvl cap to 213 and 220, respectively, while rewarding you with the existing Keystone Conqueror and Master achievements.
Players can earn Valor points through Mythic+ or covenant Callings, albeit with a weekly cap. "Upgrade costs will vary by item slot and will be consistent across all item levels," Community Manager Kaivax said in a blue forum post.
"In many cases, the changes coming in 9.0.5 are improvements to Legendary items and Covenant class abilities that have seen comparatively less use by players," Kaivax explains.
"Our goal with these changes is to provide more gameplay options for crafting and utilizing Legendary items in specific situations, and to make sure that more players feel that the Covenant that suits their aesthetic, narrative, or other preferences for their character also feels more viable for their preferred playstyle."
More changes are slated to arrive on the WoW Update 9.05 PTR in the coming weeks. Blizzard hasn't shared any details about when we can expect the patch to be pushed to live servers.
