During a keynote speech at the Austin Game Developers Conference covered by Gamasutra, Harvey Smith, former Game Designer for Ion Storm and now with Arkane Austin, said that his studio was working on a new and immersive first person shooter title. Smith is known for his work on Deus Ex: Invisible War and for working on such titles as Thief: Deadly Shadows.
Warren Spector has speculated (I couldn't resist) that the "hardcore folks" of his previous creations won't see eye-to-eye with this new game. While he expects some backlash he adds that he's actually "looking forward to getting into that discussion with them." A discussion? You mean a pelting right? Right?
The first trickles of info have begun to pour from PC Zone's Deus Ex 3 preview article, chiefly revealing that it's a prequel set in 2027 playing Adam Jensen. Some Deus Ex fans are a little riled but Eidos affirm that it's still a "hybrid action/RPG just like the first game." Health is managed Call of Duty style apparently; auto-healing.
In an interview with Edge, lead game designer Jean-Francois Dugas has said that any "console-isation" wouldn't be "about dumbing down features." The team would want to keep "the complexity alive." He also voiced his opinion on the original Deus Ex being too slow paced, and not enough memorable moments.
According to a preview on Czech website Hratelne.cz, and thanks to the translation of one Eidos forum poster, the game has its veil lifted a little. They report that Eidos Montreal openly love the whole BioShock atmosphere, it'll have femme fatales, an apartment to call home, squad-based AI, bosses, and heck of a lot more.
Graham Hopper of Disney Corp has said the RPG man Warren Spector is still formulating greatness over at their studio; will show it when it's "right and ready." Junction Point's game has been in development for quite the while, with the team keeping silent on their project. It's something Disney have had "creative ideas about for a long time".
Warren Spector, creator of Deus Ex, reveals he hasn't quite moved on from the sci-fi series and even tried to buy it from Eidos. They wouldn't part with Deus Ex though, with Spector saying there "were and still are" stories he'd "like to tell." Deus Ex 3 in 2010.
Square Enix cracked open the piggy bank and bought Eidos, and now for the first time they're collaborating on a videogame - Deus Ex 3. While Eidos Montreal is busy with the gameplay and such, the "people in Tokyo" are handling all the CG movies, reveals D'Astous.
All that talk of Deus Ex 3 going all hardcore and shunning consoles is circumstantial says Eidos, because they've only announced it on PC. That doesn't exclude an Xbox 360 and PS3 release, just that it's totally coming to PC is all. Eidos "dunno where" where this info came from.
Eidos Montreal remains busy working on Deus Ex 3 but it may have gotten a new name if Square's latest trademark is anything to go by. The third instalment is a prequel to events in the original Deus Ex game. Square Enix are publishing and producing all CG cinematics.
Art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete from Eidos Montreal will give a speech on Deus Ex 3 in March at the Games Developer Conference. He'll be talking about its "Cyber Renaissance" specifically, which is "infused across fashion, characters, environments and story" say the GDC.
Deus Ex fans should be all ears and eyes this Thursday, stalking events from GDC, because Eidos Montreal's Stephanie D'Astous says so. The top executive reveals they'll have a "little surprise from DX3" around 20:30 PST this 11th. Hopefully a decent and revealing trailer will debut.
Eidos Montreal has confirmed our suspicions that Deus Ex 3 is actually called Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It will also have no multiplayer. Game director Jean-Francois Dugas said the wanted to stay true to the legacy, and so they focused "purely on the singleplayer". No date yet.
It seems Steam may have outed the release date for the new Deus Ex game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The title's store entry suggests that it will be coming out in February, on PC at least. So far, the only official word from Square was "early 2011", which was what was tagged on at the end of the E3 trailer. This wouldn't have been the first time Steam have jumped the gun when it comes to pre-orders. Stay tuned for more information.
Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution is all singleplayer which lets them "deliver a quality game," as the studio doesn't get divided. Work has already started on DLC for the game and it'll be "an extension", headed up by the game producer and director. Hits all platforms?
Publisher Square Enix has 12 titles planned for this year's Tokyo Game Show, but 2 big Final Fantasy instalments are missing from the list. That would be Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, despite a nod from director Tetsuya Nomura saying they'd be at the event.
If you thought 2010 was a drain on your wallet, look out for 2011.
A special five minute “extended cut” version of the E3 2010 trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been released by Square-Enix.
No longer will Eidos' Deus Ex: Human Revolution grace our retail stores January to March 2011 as Square Enix push it into their next financial year. It will join PS3 Final Fantasy XIV in their next fiscal line-up. Poor critical response to major titles earlier led to the pushbacks. Profit forecast plummets.
