When thinking about the port of Halo Wars 2, one word can only come to mind: disappointing. Halo Wars 2 is a real-time strategy game for Windows 10 (and Xbox One) developed by Creative Assembly and 343 Industries. It is important to note that the original Halo Wars, developed by the Age of Empire wizards Ensemble Studios, was only released on the Xbox 360, so it stands to reason the console DNA would be alive and well in Halo Wars 2. However, the question going into it was how prevalent would that DNA be found in the much anticipated PC version?
Microsoft has been wowing us with Halo trailers for years, but the new launch trailer for Halo Wars 2 could be a cut above the rest.
With news hitting just yesterday of Microsoft hitting striking a marketing deal to bring the PC version of Halo Wars 2 to brick and mortar stores, it's time to gear up for the game's final testing phase.
Sad that potentially moving from a console to the PC release of Halo Wars 2 would jeopardize your collection of Halo merchandise? Worry not! THQ Nordic has stepped in to offer a physical edition of Microsoft's upcoming RTS sequel.

PC gamers have had limited access to Microsoft’s flagship shooter series, as Halo hasn’t been on computers since Halo 2. But now, Halo 5 is hitting PC! Or, rather, a small part of it, in the form of Forge mode. The customization tool will come to Windows 10 on September 8.
Creative Assembly’s flagship strategy series, Total War, is known for a lot of things. Depth. Complexity. Certainly not accessibility, which is part of why it was so surprising to see the developer attached to the largely console-focused, mainstream strategy title, Halo Wars 2. But they are aiming to bring in new players with the upcoming title.
The upcoming Spartan-fueled RTS, Halo Wars 2, had a beta back in June coinciding with the game’s E3 reveal. However, despite the game’s planned cross-platform release, that beta was only available on Xbox One. But a new beta has been announced which will be available both to console and PC players.
Unlike Gears of War 4 which was confirmed to have cross-platform play at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, 343 Industries Studio Head Dan Ayoub confirmed Halo Wars 2 will not be enabling cross-platform play. Speaking with Eurogamer, Ayoub had this to say about not including this feature: “Cross-play is something we were looking at early on in development,” said Ayoub. “We’ve been in development since 2014. But as we looked at our timing and our design decisions, we focused on some different things that basically became Xbox Play Anywhere.”
Microsoft showed off a new trailer for Halo Wars 2 today, along with a release date.

The sequel to Halo Wars, the RTS developed by Ensemble Studios back in 2009, will be arriving sometime later this year for PC and Xbox One. Halo Wars 2 will be developed by Creative Assembly, the team behind the Total War games. There hasn’t been much information released about it by Microsoft, but that hasn’t stopped fans somehow finding pictures relating to the game. Twitter user @Lifelower has discovered some leaked art for Halo Wars 2. While I personally don’t know much about Halo Wars, I’ve been told these pictures may spoil some of the story elements in the game. You’ve been warned!
Sources close to Kotaku say Microsoft will be bringing Xbox One exclusives to PC as part of the company’s Project Helix strategy. You may remember the recently cancelled title called Fable Legends. Announced back in 2014 with the Project Helix strategy in mind, Fable Legends wanted both PC and Xbox One players to have the same experience. This would mean both sets of players could play online with each other, use party chat and earn achievements.
There have been a lot of Xbox One games that have been coming to Windows 10, including the just-released Killer Instinct, Quantum Break, and Halo Wars 2. However, the one Xbox One title that everyone is curious about is Halo 5, and Microsoft's Phil Spencer has stated that gamers shouldn't hold their breath waiting for it.
Killer Instinct Season 3 will be launching on Windows 10 will be released on the 10th March 2016, and one of the iconic characters from the Halo series, the Arbiter, will be one of the purchasable fighters. Microsoft has released a new trailer to show off his moves.
The only Halo games to be released on PC were Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, though Russians are enjoying a form of it called Halo Online, which was in closed beta back in March. It seems fans are tired of waiting for Microsoft to port a new Halo to PC, so they're making their own called Installation 01.
