Stronghold 4 will feature 22 missions as part of the main story campaign, which itself is set before the first game in the series. As such, while players may be eager to see if popular characters like Stronghold 1’s “boy” and his wolf make an appearance, Firefly Studios has confirmed that these previous protagonists won’t be in Stronghold 4. The same is true for early series fan favorites, such as Stronghold 2’s Matthew Steele, Sir William, Lord Barlay, and the Hawk.
Instead, Stronghold 4 follows Penryn of Wethel, a humble shepherd with grand ambitions who finds his life upended. Players will be tasked with leading Penryn and his growing forces on a journey of daring and death, enhanced by full cinematic cutscenes for the first time ever in a Stronghold campaign.
Firefly Studios is set to disclose further story and campaign details before launch. For now, it has revealed that notable characters will be voiced by the likes of Ben Starr (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), Samantha Béart (Baldur's Gate 3), Walles Hamonde (Battlefield 2042) and Harry McEntire (Assassin's Creed: Valhalla).
