The Slitherine Group has acquired the rights to the Blood Bowl video game series and back catalogue from NACON.
The deal gives the wargame and strategy specialists full license, publishing rights, and ownership of previous Blood Bowl games. The deal also sees Slitherine publishing the upcoming Warhammer Blood Bowl, which will be developed by long-time Blood Bowl team Cyanide Studio.
Cyanide’s future had been in turmoil after filing for insolvency, and it seemed likely it would follow its fellow Nacon-owned studio Spiders in shutting down.
So Slitherine has stepped in, having proactively approached Cyanide about being an ’’ ideal partner to support the game moving forward,” according to Marco Minoli, DoP at Slitherine.
Blood Bowl Gets Another Season in the Sun
Minoli did stress Slitehrine wasn’t taking an ownership stake in Cyanide, rather ’’ securing a long-term development deal with them.’’ to ’’ guarantee the absolute, long-term continuity of development for the game.”
So with the future of Cyanide and Blood Bowl secured, eyes can turn to the next Warhammer Blood Bowl, where fresh details will be revealed later this month at the Slitherine Next event on July 22, 2026, from 5 PM BST.
The Warhammer Blood Bowl series is an enduring fantasy sports spinoff first created by Games Workshop in the 1980s. The latest video game entry was published by Slitherine and developed by Cyanide.
While it’s good news that the series and the developer are safe, there will need to be some improvement, as Blood Bowl 3 got a fairly underwhelming reception in 2023.
