David Gaider announced his retirement from Bioware last month, after nearly two decades of employment, during which time he worked on Baldur’s Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, and Knights of the Old Republic, and served as lead writer for Dragon Age: Origins, eventually shaping the entire series. Now he’s working as a creative director at Beamdog, the folks you might know as the Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition people.

Countdown timer promises more information on Beamdog's upcoming Baldur's Gate game this week

We already know that Beamdog, the team behind the slightly buggy but generally pretty great Enhanced Editions for Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, is creating a spin-off tale codenamed Adventure Y, to take place slap bang in the middle of Bioware's classic fantasy RPG adventures.

It looks like we'll be finding out more about the project pretty soon. A timer has gone up over on the game's official website, counting down until July 3.

Beamdog confirms it's working on a new chapter in the Baldur's Gate franchise

Well now It's long been rumoured, but it's still quite a shock to hear Beamdog confirm that they're working on a completely new entry in the Baldur's Gate series.

It's not quite Baldur's Gate 3, though. Instead the developer will create an all-new side chapter in the storyline that takes place between the first two games.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition "available for sale once again"

The 'contractual issues' between Overhaul Games and Atari have been slain by a mighty isometric RPG party of lawyers, and so Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is available at your local merchants "once again."

This is great news for owners of the HD remake eagerly awaiting the "major" patch Overhaul have been working on. The team will also have "exciting news" for BG2 soon.

Beamdog "still interested" in Baldur's Gate III, fighting "contractual dispute bullsh*t"

article image

Developer Beamdog still wants to pursue the concept of Baldur's Gate III, although the studio right is "very demoralized." Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is still being kept from online stores over legal wrangling.

This has meant work on Baldur's Gate II has been put on "indefinite hold," and that includes the current patch. The worst case scenario is being stuck in "legal hell for a while."
