Original Borderlands to be remastered, reveals Australian ratings board

2K Games and Gearbox Software are remastering the original insanity that was Borderlands. According to the Australian ratings board, it will be called Borderlands Remastered Edition.

It is expected to arrive for PC, Xbox One and PS4. It was a collaborative effort between Gearbox and 2K Australia. This re-release was rated MA15+ yesterday, December 11th.

China-based Shanda Games is developing a PC and mobile version of Borderlands, and it’s taking aim at the free-to-play market in the Far East. Borderlands Online is unlikely to come to Western markets.

Gearbox Software, creator of the series, is collaborating with Shanda. Chinese fans can expect a billion microtransactions for a gazillion guns no doubt. Its impact on the wider series is unknown.

Borderlands 2 made available for SteamOS, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel also on the way

Borderlands 2 has been made available for SteamOS, and Valve has confirmed that spin-off Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released alongside it when it launches on October 14.

SteamOS is Valve's new Linux-based operating system. Though it's mainly intended for the launch of next year's Steam Machines, the Beta version is available for free on any PC right now.

Borderlands 2 is free on Steam this weekend, and it's been drastically reduced in price if the game's brand of wacky co-op violence is your cup of tea.

The free weekend ends at 1pm PDT, but the game remains at 75% off until Monday August 25. Every bit of Borderlands 2 DLC is also on sale, including all mission packs and skins.
