Double Fine date Grim Fandango Remastered, confirm Day of the Tentacle to follow

Tim Schafer of developer Double Fine revealed the date which Grim Fandango Remastered will be entering our lives, as well as released a new trailer for the classic adventure game.

Another announcement slipped out as Schafer confirmed fan suspicion that Day of the Tentacle will also be remastered with a Special Edition for PC and PlayStation 4 when it arrives.

Broken Age developer Double Fine has had to let a dozen staff members go from the studio after a project with a publisher fell through, signing the death warrant to the unannounced project.

They did confirm however that Broken Age, Massive Chalice and the remastering of Grim Fandango "were unaffected." Massive Chalice has recently hit Early Access and is a strategy RPG.

This might sound like blasphemy to fans of the original game, but creator Tim Schafer's thinking big when it comes to a possible Grim Fandango sequel. He'd like to make it an open world game.

Talking to Kotaku at Double Fine's 'Day of the Devs' event, Schafer revealed; "I've had this urge to make a fully 3D version of El Marrow, where it's more like an open world game."

Now this is excellent news. Developer Double Fine has confirmed via their official Twitter that the remastered version of classic adventure game Grim Fandango will be available on PC, Mac and Linux.

It was something of a surprise at E3 this year to find out that Tim Schafer's darkly comic tale of scheming skeletons would be getting an updated HD version on PS4 and Vita. Good to hear that it's coming back to its original platform too.

Fans of the classic LucasArts adventure game Grim Fandango can celebrate as a new utility, ResidualVM, makes the game compatible with Windows 7 and 8. The game was originally released on Windows 98.
