The Star Wars Battlefront 3 fan remake has been given the go-ahead by Valve to release the game on Steam. Frontwire have been rebuilding the abandoned Star Wars Battlefront 3 project (created by TimeSplitters studio Free Radical Design) for some time now, the Russian developers have even renamed the project to Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil.
“It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil, said Tony Romanelli, President of Frontwire Studios. “After ongoing discussion between Valve Representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to it’s millions of users for FREE.”
It wasn't quite the barn-storming Star Wars: Battlefront reveal we were hoping for, but a developer video released during EA's E3 2014 press conference shows that DICE are hard at work on creating those classic Star Wars battlegrounds.
There was even some very early in-engine footage, featuring two iconic vehicles and locations; the snow-speeders on icy Hoth and speeder-bikes zooming through the forests of Endor. Not an ewok in sight thus far, though.
In case you were unaware, Lucasfilm has 'freed themselves' of the Star Wars Expanded Universe by declaring it not official canon to Star Wars. That's so they're free to explore the new trilogy in the works.
However it also means that every game up until this point is also outside the canon, but Lucasfilm have said every new title from this moment on will be considered official.
A YouTube user going by the name of Borman18 has leaked a pre-alpha gameplay video for Star Wars Battlefront III, which was cancelled causing the closure of its developers Free Radical.
A new rumor has sprung up on Twitter that developer Spark Unlimited, best known for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary, is working on the long-awaited sequel Star Wars Battlefront 3, the Star Wars-licensed variation of Battlefield.
