The latest Bedrock Beta patch is now live and so War for the Overworld reaches version 0.3.1. This brings with it an all-new spell designed to stop workers from scurrying out and claiming new land.
That’s a great help if you don’t want them put at risk, or just don’t feel like some corridors falling under your purview of evilness. There’s also a Stone Bridge to traverse that hot stuff called lava.
The new spell Impasse costs nothing to place and isn’t assigned any particular vein so is available from the start of a new map. There are new terrains as well.
Sacred Earth & Sacred Ground tiles are completely immune to being captured by an Underlord, while others offer some interesting tactics like the Brimstone terrain which can be cooled down and so becomes impenetrable for a short time. Conversely the Permafrost is impenetrable, until heated up.
Unit Grouping is now also a thing in the domain of Underlords, and has released in its first iteration and the Subterranean team plan ”significant UI improvements to it in the future”. Visual updates have also been made with v0.3.1, such as beautify the ”incredibly ugly” level loading bar.
A full changelog for the Bedrock Beta v0.3.1 “Rally Impassibly Good Patch” is available here.
Currently the multiplayer feature has been pushed back as they continue to work on it and the OS X version of the latest update still needs some work done before it can release - it is possibly an issue with the Unity engine itself.
