League of Legends’ rare ’Ultimate’ skins are basically souped-up costumes for the game’s roster of heroes that add a little extra flair in return for a rather hefty asking price.
The latest on offer, DJ Sona, might cost a whopping 3250 Riot Points (around $25), but she comes with three different songs that you can switch between mid-game, each of which changes her outfit and the look of her abilities.
Those three tracks - one of which you can listen to above - were composed by a number of artists that popular, cool young people might recognise (but I don’t). Riot’s been working with Bassnectar, Crystal Method, Nosaj, Pretty Lights, Renholder and Dada Life on the music, which players on your team can listen in to if you’re playing with the DJ Sona skin. They don’t HAVE to of course, so don’t worry about annoying them to much.
”Throughout the game, DJ Sona can spin one of three evolving songs,” explains Riot, ”Kinetic, Concussive and Ethereal. Each one has its own distinct style and transforms Sona entirely, from her outfit and turntable to the look and feel of her abilities. She kicks off every gig in Kinetic but typing /toggle in the in-game chat cues up the next tune. The tracks will always go in order of Kinetic → Concussive → Ethereal → Kinetic, no remixes allowed.”
Lots of stuff there, even if $25 still seems like an insane amount to pay for a different costume. There’s no word on exactly when the skin will be released yet.
