The details of the Winter Update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive have been revealed. The main focus of the update is a new weapon, the R8 Revolver, a Kill Cam, and a major gameplay balance intended for ranked championship play.
The R8 Revolver is a stubby gun that has tremendous close range stopping power, but a slow trigger. Players have the option of fanning the hammer for a rapid fire attack, but at the cost of accuracy. A new Weapons Case, appropriately called the Revolver Case, comes with the update, featuring two reskins of the R8 as well as other weapons in the game.
Another feature is the Kill Cam. Players can now see how they died from their killer’s perspective. Aside from learning from mistakes and adjusting strategy, the Kill Cam is also a great way to see if the player was cheating. A bullet simply won’t be able to pass through several walls to score a frag, after all.
The Winter Update also includes tweaks for competitive and championship play. Aside from the usual weapon balancing, it includes the ability to vote on whether to take a 60 second breather between rounds. In addition, the update institutes a change to round and C4 timers in competitive matchmaking, lengthening them to 1:55 and 0:40 respectively. It will be mandatory for Major Championships. ”The times are intended to unify the professional and community experience, while addressing the exceptional strength of smoke grenades in the shorter rounds of professional matches,” explains the update.
