A new developer diary for the Europa Universalis IV: El Dorado expansion has been released and it looks at the new ‘Hunt for the Seven Cities’ unit toggle for our conquistadors. Essentially this is an ‘auto-explore’ of the New World.
However it means our exploring army will be actively hunting for the fabled golden cities, and that means special events will appear. Should we manage to find one of these treasures then riches await.
These come in the form of tax income bonuses or boosts to prestige, but our brave conquistadors could fail or even die along the way. Another addition with El Dorado are colonial merchants which means we get an extra merchant to use in trade once a colonial subject reaches 10 provinces.
Inland trading has been altered once again, and now trade-power gives way to ‘Caravan Power’ and is based off our total tax base up to a maximum of 50. So a nation with 30 tax base gets 30 Caravan Power. ”This means that a dozen one-province countries with five merchants each can no longer drain away most of the value of Ragusa simply through their combined trade power bonuses.”
A slew of Dynamic Historical Events are also being included as part of the accompanying free patch, which means over 40 events for the South- and Mesoamericans to give them more life.
If the idea of your conquistadors auto-exploring the New World appeals to you, then the first developer diary for El Dorado unveiled an ambitious change to naval exploration as well. We can now send our fleets on an ‘Exploration Mission’, and have them work to chart whole sea zones, or focus on coast lines. These missions can only start from in port, and fleets suffer no attrition. Read more here.
