Over the last week, Blizzard has been teasing new content for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void that will be coming to the game soon for free. We’ve come to find out that players will be able to play as Karax in co-op mode and players will be able to take Karax and other commanders into a brand-new co-op mission.
Karax was originally teased on December 9 via the official StarCraft Twitter. In co-op mode, players take on a commander and get access to a certain set of units and buildings, as well as a special ability to deploy in battle. Karax’s special ability, somewhat like Artanis, calls down orbital assistance from the Spear of Adun. He can use the Purifier Beam or Solar lance to fire controllable beams of light on enemy units and structures or use the Repair Beam to save and strengthen friendly structures.

In addition, Blizzard hosted an interview with designer Greg Black to introduce and explore the upcoming co-op mission, Lock & Load. The mission uses the Ulnar environment as the staging ground. Players must seek out and lock down control points. Black stressed that the team desired to make a more difficult mission which would absolutely require players to cooperate in order to succeed. It’s looking to be a challenging map indeed, so we’ll see how it holds up to the hardcore player base of Starcraft II upon release.
In my review of Legacy of the Void, I pointed out Co-op Mode as my favorite thing about the game. Anyone who is sleeping on these missions is missing out a great part of Legacy of the Void and it’s awesome to see Blizzard supporting the mode with some cool free content.
