Mordheim: City of the Damned, Rogue Factor’s adaptation of Games Workshop’s classic tabletop game, has just received its fourth Early Access update, and it’s a big one.
As every Warhammer fan knows, Chaos might be fun, but it tends to be bad for your health. Just ask anyone from The Cult of the Possessed - the Chaos warband now receive random mutations when leveling up that warp their bodies in various nasty ways. At least all those extra eyes and tentacles provide a bonus in combat. Rogue Factor gives the example of the ”thousand eyes” mutation, which gives the unit +10 for initiative, and… well you can probably guess what it does, but see the image below left for a good look.
While other factions don’t get horribly transformed by eldritch magic, representative armour is now in the game. Equip different sets and you’ll see them on your characters. Not quite as cool as sprouting eyes in your stomach, admittedly, but a nice addition.
Other big changes include the addition of a Rune system for weapons, which allows you to customise the gear of your Rank 10 warbands. This system is still a work in progress, Rogue Factor points out, and is being included now so that the community can start testing it. There’s two new maps, and voice chat function has been extended to the pre-game lobby.
There’s so much new stuff in this update that the install space required has shot up from just 7GB to around 22GB. Basically around half the game’s just been added, and you can check out the full list of changes here. Expected to release this October, Mordheim: City of the Damned is currently 33% off on Steam.
