Don’t book any time off from work yet if you’re thinking about the PC release of No Man’s Sky, as creator Sean Murray recently warned during a Reddit AMA that the game might not be released until Friday evening.
The PlayStation 4 version comes out tomorrow in the UK, although it will be released in other parts of the world today, but the PC version is still being worked on and won’t be released until Friday.
“The reality is that we’re still here working on it right now. There’s no conspiracy, we’re just racing to get all the extra options and stuff we want.” said Murray in the Reddit AMA. “PS4 comes out tomorrow and we’ll just try to pretend it’s a normal work day! Best guess right now is 6pm GMT on Friday, but we’ll keep you up to date as we get closer.”
It appears that Hello Games are currently working on making sure there’s compatibility with ATI OpenGL drivers, at least that’s what Murray told Playboy, who deemed it too “nerdy” and told him to make something up when asking what he was working on next.
“I’ll tell you a funny story about PC,” he continued. “I was here late yesterday, and I had to take a break and do an interview with Playboy (!) - and the guy was like ‘what are you working on when you go back downstairs?’ and I was like ‘compatibility for ATI opengl drivers’, and he said ‘ummm…. could you make something up. That sounds pretty nerdy’. I always knew I wasn’t Playboy article material.”
We’re currently waiting for PC code so we can start letting you all know our thoughts on the game, but we probably won’t have access to it until Friday. We haven’t actually been told when we’ll be getting code yet, but if we do get it before then we’ll be sure to put some quick impressions up.
