PS3 is "all fun and games until the battery dies" says Yahoo! article

According to one Anne Kadet of Yahoo!, entitled ‘A Grinch’s Gift Guide’, the PlayStation 3 has very limited playtime thanks to its controllers.

Those fancy PS3 pads don’t use ”replaceable AA batteries.” and it’s ”glued shut” so once they’ve run down you’ve got to ”blow $55”.

Amazing, truly, if this Kadet believes her own words.

”It’s all fun and games until the battery dies. Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3’s remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller,” reads the piece, reports VG247.

”Sony says there’s an “environmental benefit” since gamers don’t have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it’s cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch.”

Videogamer, stop blowing that $55 for a new PS3 controller every other week, and please be sure to plug in the included USB wire into the small port on the pad and into your PlayStation 3. This provides the added bonus of letting you play while it charges.

Yahoo! is owned by Microsoft, but I’m sure that’s just sheer, silly coincidence.
