DoTA 2's 7.00 Update Is A Bigger Deal That You May Think

Once again proving the number 3 doesn't exist, Valve's monumental 7.0 update to DoTA 2 is being heralded as the game's official sequel. Currently in the public testing phase, the mega-popular MOBA title is seeing a vast array of significant changes with the first whole-number update in over a decade.

Since taking over development of what started out as a Warcraft III mod for many years, DoTA 2, in its many forms, has been sitting around some increment of version 6.xx since 2005. The changes themselves, however, are enough for fans to judge this is as Valve's true vision of the game. Their own beast.

And apparently the update could usher in a wave of new players, too. With jungle spawns being completely reshuffled and even the most static map having a shake-up, that, combined with the new in-match levelling system means even those having spent thousands of hours on the game will have to re-learn a lot of key aspects all over again; meaning the gap between veterans and new-comers isn't quite so wide for now.
