Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is based on the award-winning TV series, which includes using the likeness of actors from that as in-game controllable heroes (eg. Jon Snow is modelled after Kit Harrington). However, despite surface similarities, the game also offers players the tantalizing possibility to rewrite the ending of the show, rather than being beholden to its canon.
To do so, players can control one of four factions and battle it out across Westeros in a fight to claim the Iron Throne. As a classic RTS, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros doesn’t feature an open world but it does have multiple maps based on popular locations from the show, including King’s Landing, The Wall, and Ashemark. The game can be played solo or in free-for-all multiplayer.
