Activision drastically downsized operations at Radical Entertainment shortly after Prototype 2 released. However the studio continues to operate albeit devoid of any "full-scale game development". Community manager Dan Amrich at Activision proclaims they're "creating something cool," despite the cutbacks. It was Prototype 2's inability to find a "broad commercial audience" that did it.

Radical Entertainment has been hit with significant layoffs after the studio's Prototype 2 didn't meet Activision's commercial expectations for the franchise, and so the IP is effectively dead. However Radical have reassured PC fans still awaiting Prototype 2 that it is "indeed, still coming" this July 24th. The Blacklight virus "didn't spread as far as it could," lamented its creator.

Activision has confirmed that there have been "significant" layoffs at the Vancouver-based developer Radical Entertainment. The developer had most recently worked on Prototype and Prototype 2. The firings were due to lower-than-expected sales for the latter game.

Diablo III became the first PC game to lead US videogame sales since Starcraft II two years ago, but it wasn't enough to prevent sales from suffering a 28% drop from May 2011 to May 2012, according to the NPD Group. This has been a trend in dipping sales for the past few months, starting with February 2012's 20% drop from February 2011.
