If you’ve just started your Subnautica 2 journey and have begun building a place to call home, you might be running into important breathability problems… This is how to get oxygen in your base in Subnautica 2.
After a long time in closed development, Subnautica 2 has finally hit early access on PC (Steam & Epic) and Xbox, instantly becoming a massive hit. With optional co-op multiplayer and character skills as its key new features, the sequel also gets a major glow-up in terms of graphics while retaining the stylish original aesthetic. So far, we’re happy with the game’s debut, but the developers are only getting started…
Getting oxygen in bases in Subnautica 2
Though it might sound too simple (and a bit counter-intuitive if you ask me), the lack of oxygen in Subnautica 2 bases is tied to power and not air filters or special machinery. You just need to power up you base, no matter its size.
Even if you’re still just gluing together a couple of corridors and a hatch, you’ll want some oxygen in your Subnautica 2 base, and to make the air breathable you’ll just need to craft solar panels to power up the base. They’re normally put on top of the regular base pieces and harvest solar energy during the day. Yes, even underwater.
Crafting solar panels in Subnautica 2
Thankfully, solar panels are also one of the easiest “pieces” for base-building that you can create in Subnautica 2. As soon as you have the habitat builder, you’ll have the ability to create the basic pieces that can create a cozy underwater base plus the basic tech to keep it alive.
To craft solar panels, you’ll need to select them inside the habitat builder tool’s menu and spend 1 titanium and 2 quartz. The power output might vary depending on the time of the day and the depth of the base (for obvious reasons), so it’s likely you’ll want to create and place more than one solar panel, especially as the base grows in size and complexity.
