Sony Online Entertainment’s Kevin O’Hara has revealed they’ve hit a snag, that people aren’t so happy with cross-platform after all, it could be dropped.
The Agency beta will have it in but it’s ”up in the air” right now for retail, but from a technical standpoint they ”can do it if we want.” Not for this year, but will release on PS3 and PC together.
”We have not decided if you can play between the two. They are cross-platform. We’re able to do it - it’s more of a design concern,” SOE senior game designer Kevin O’Hara tells VideoGamer.com.
”We’re doing a lot of focus testing and we’re finding that people just, ‘oh they’ve got a controller, it’s not fair! Well they’ve got a mouse it’s not fair!’” At E3, The Agency was shown with PS3 and PC versions hooked up together for some cross-platform action.
”It’s what people say they want at first but when they actually play then… So it’s up in the air. We’ll go through beta with that and get strong opinions on which way to go. But technically we can do it if we want,” he said, so at least hardware isn’t keeping it back from reality.
”We haven’t done a release date yet for it,” noted O’Hara. ”We’re still in development. We’ve got a lot of new features in the game - it’s really coming along. We’re having fun with it. We’ve got a couple more features to work on before we’re comfortable with it.”
The Agency is a spy/mercenary-themed MMO, said to be using a free-to-play model, and sports some interesting features like building your own ‘organization’ with NPC recruits.
