While not revealing exact numbers, it has been confirmed that week 36 is up over ”999 percent” on week 35 for PlayStation 3 sales. It’s ”a very large increase” indeed.
SCEE’s Andrew House says ”this is the point people were waiting for”, a redesigned PS3 model with a ”significant price reduction” in Euros. The PS3 beat DS, Wii and Xbox 360 last week.
The PlayStation 3 became the lead hardware in the UK, the first time this year. It led by approximately 3:1 according to Chart-Track data.
”The uplift on week 36 on week 35 is plus 999 per cent,” Dorian Bloch of Chart-Track told GamesIndustry.biz. ”We don’t give out the hardware numbers, but never-the-less it’s a very large increase.”
Sony has been looking forward to a good period of sales this Christmas, and things seem to be on target for them. ”I think what I’ve heard anecdotally is that this is the point people were waiting for - a redesigned model and, in Euros, a significant price reduction,” said Andrew House, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
”That’s people’s cue to jump into the business.” Have you taken the PS3 Slim jump?
When the PS2 Slim model was launched back in 2004, it helped leap sales 310 percent in week 44 of that year. Xbox 360 sales climbed 43 percent in Europe last week thanks to Elite price snips.
