Valheim - How to Repair: Weapons, Tools and Armor

Valheim lets players repair damaged weapons, tools and armor without spending additional crafting materials. Equipment is repaired at the crafting station used to make it, while structures and boats can be repaired with the Hammer. Here’s how the different repair systems work.

Repairing Weapons, Tools and Armor in Valheim

To repair equipment in Valheim, return to the crafting station where the item is made. Open the station’s crafting menu and select the hammer icon to repair a damaged item. Repairs don’t consume additional materials, so there’s no need to gather the resources again.

Different equipment requires different crafting stations. Items made at a Workbench can be repaired there, while equipment made at a Forge or another specialized station needs to be repaired at the appropriate station.

The crafting station also needs to be functional before you can use it. For example, a Workbench needs to meet its normal requirements, including being covered by a roof, before its crafting and repair functions become available.

You can repair an item repeatedly until it reaches full durability. Since repairs don’t require additional resources, keeping equipment maintained is generally more economical than crafting replacements.

How to Repair Buildings and Boats in Valheim

Player-built structures are repaired using the Hammer. Equip it, open the building menu and select the repair function, then aim at the damaged wall, floor, roof or other structure. The repair doesn’t require additional building materials, although you need access to a Workbench within building range.

The same system can be used to repair boats. With the Hammer equipped, select the repair function and target the damaged vessel while within range of a Workbench. The repair system is particularly useful for maintaining larger bases, where weather and other environmental effects can gradually damage exposed structures. Checking buildings periodically can prevent damaged pieces from eventually breaking.

Repairing equipment is similarly important when preparing for dangerous areas. Keeping weapons, tools and armor at full durability means they’re ready when needed and avoids having to return to a settlement because an important item has become unusable.

Iron Gate launched the Valheim 1.0 release across all major platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, on Sept. 9, 2026. It came with the Deep North expansion, new weapons, armor and building pieces, while a recent hotfix also specifically fixed an issue that prevented some endgame heavy armor from being repaired.
