Gearbox Software’s stylish looking sci-fi sandbox romp, the one with over 500,000 gun combinations, is heading to shops this October 20th in the US.
Europe can have Borderlands just a little later on the 23rd, as well as other territories. 2K Games’ Christoph Hartmann isn’t ”afraid of competition”, in fact this is a lighter holiday.
”I don’t think we have to be afraid of competition or shy of what’s out there,” said a confident Hartmann, reports GameSpot. ”I think this holiday season is a little bit lighter in triple-A games than last year. It’s actually a good holiday to put something out.”
”There’s always risk and opportunity. The risk is you have a hard time standing out against established IP. The opportunity is you have a lot of traffic here and it can be a much bigger product at retail than it would be otherwise.”
Borderlands was expected to release last year but it delayed and then unveiled a whole new visual art style for the game this spring. It’s been described as ”Mad Max meets Diablo,” which frankly could be the greatest game on Earth, period. Over 500,000 weapons are possible in the game as they randomly spawn in weapons caches around the open-world.
Borderlands is being released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this October.
