Datel makes said third-party goods, and frankly is far better in capacity and pricing, and is now taking Microsoft to court for screwing consumers.
This block is to allegedly stop cheating and the like, and that Microsoft itself benefits from murdering competitor products is just coincidence. Microsoft ”unfairly favours its own Xbox 360 accessories” says Datel, stating something of the obvious there.
”Microsoft’s purpose in disabling Datel’s memory cards is to prevent consumers from choosing a Datel product that offers far better value for the price,” adds Datel, reports CVG.
”There is no benefit to consumers from Microsoft’s decision to target and disable Datel’s memory cards.” These memory cards offer far higher capacity (4GB, can be 16GB) at lower prices than Microsoft’s own brand, which lingers around a measly 512MB.
”To the contrary, Microsoft’s actions will leave approximately 50,000 consumers with useless memory cards and (without the ability to access their data on the cards), forestall innovation, and deprive future consumers of the benefits of competition.”
Datel seeks an injunction against the corporate giant to prevent them from ”disabling or erecting technological barriers to Datel accessories,” in this and all future generations. Let’s be honest, this is one lawsuit all gamers can get behind - right?
”Max Memory offers a good value, high capacity, alternative to the official Memory Unit.”
