While telling a tragic story of a recent widow addicted to a game called Smallworld, the article included assets from games totally unrelated.
We can do over-hyped sensationalist drivel too ya know Mr Daily Mail, except that we know how to use the Internets - specifically Google image search algorithms.
The addicted women allegedly neglected her children and let her dogs starve to death because she became so obsessed with Smallworld. Aside from shots of the boardgame they included shots of Warhammer Online, even sticking a false URL on it.
What becomes weirder is the fact that no online version of the Smallworld boardgame actually exists, while other Days of Wonder titles are on Facebook. There is a SmallWorlds social network ‘world’ though integrated with Faecbook.
In any case it’s another example of tabloid press dangerously spreading misinformation about the videogames culture and industry, albeit less so in this particular instance. Notice something a little off with the Daily Mail picture below?
