Sega West president Mike Hayes pours extremely cold water, ice if you will, over any such notion. They ”certainly won’t” be returning to that, ever.
”Absolutely not. We’re a software company. We certainly won’t be getting back into hardware, that’s for sure,” Hayes said to CVG. While the world certainly enjoyed hardware like the MegaDrive and Dreamcast, it was near fiscal ruin for Sega.
Now that they’re all software again they’ve got rolls of money sticking out their back pocket and they don’t want to part with it for some silly console dream. Luckily for us those old Dreamcast games are being revived for HD re-release on Xbox Live and PSN.
At E3 2010 Sega had shooter Vanquish, Total War: Shogun 2 and Sonic Colours out on the floor working their magic for us all. Sorry there’s to be no new MasterSystem.
