At E3, the only Sonic the Hedgehog titles that were exhibited by Sega were Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Siliconera writer Spencer Yip asked Takashi Iizuka how Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 was progressing, since it was not in the booth.
”We named Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, so there will be an episode 2. Since this year is the 20th anniversary of Sonic we wanted to focus on Sonic Generations,” Iizuka answered. He then added, ”We don’t have a release date or anything, but, we can tell you it will be in the near future.”
Sonic the Hedgehog: Episode 1 was released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network to mixed reviews.
