Star Trek Online and Champions Online earned EUR 18.4 million over those nine months. Test Drive Unlimited 2 sales were ”in line with expectations”.
The holiday quarter for Atari though saw revenues drop 52.5 percent year-on-year, to €11.4 million. Overall revenue from April 1st to December 31st was also down 55.7 percent at €41 million. They had Terminal’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game in 2009.
Atari say it’s because of their new strategy taking effect, i.e. selling less but higher quality games as well as online titles. ”Over the next few months, we look forward to new game releases based upon our classic Atari game franchises as well as Ghostbusters, Dungeons and Dragons and The Witcher,” said Atari CEO Jim Wilson.
Recently Cryptic’s Champions Online has switched from a purely subscription based MMO to a free-to-play model. They hope to cash in big on microtransactions.
