What dug the knife in deeper was the horrific riots that broke out in London and other major cities. Shops are believed to have lost 80 million in revenue.
For the week ending August 13th, the UK's videogames market was worth just £9.64 million having sold just over 526k units. These are the lowest figures since the summer of 2001. The constant rise of digital marketplaces has really hurt the traditional retailer.
Of course the huge swathes of damage caused by the looters in London and other major cities had a dramatic effect on retailers as they were forced to close early and suffer stock losses. The Centre of Retail Research believes £80 million in revenue was lost.
The NPD showed that US retailers haven't fared too great either this year.
