HMV combined games and tech together in the company, which they boast will give them ”higher profile and will prove a real advantage.” They want to be close chums again.
Games have been given less shelf space than HMV’s other offerings but they don’t feel it will harm the category. CEO Simon Fox said game firms got nervous last year and withdrew.
“We are committed to games,” Fox declared. “Bringing games and tech together gives the category a much higher profile and will prove a real advantage. We want to work closer with publishers and the format holders. And I am hopeful they want to do the same with us.”
”We were disappointed with last year, but we are optimistic that this year we can fight back.”
Less space doesn’t mean fewer sales? ”We intend to do that in a way that doesn’t undermine the offer. Our intention is that neither our publishers nor our customers will notice it,” said Fox. This year it seems GAME will be the shaky retailer and HMV would be wise to push their advantage and try to build as many bridges with publishers as possible.
