Aliens: Colonial Marines is to feature asymmetrical multiplayer, just like Left 4 Dead.
The idea is simple. A team of four marines will have to reach a number of checkpoints, while another group of players take on the role of those pesky aliens. There will be different types of alien, all of which will be viewed in third-person. Those playing as human characters must ensure the entire team reach each checkpoint, or else everyone will fail.
”The last awesome asymmetrical game I really enjoyed was Left 4 Dead,” said Randy Pitchford, CEO and co-founder of Gearbox. ”It’s really cool to have a franchise which really lends itself and almost demands us to bring asymmetrical gameplay back, so I’m really excited that we’re doing that.”
Pitchford also confirmed the multiplayer will include female characters in both competitive and co-op play, after a petition was launched to get them in the game.
