The plot and gameplay may sound somewhat familiar: ”You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk.” Beck has the ability to transform himself using weapons and abilities stolen from his enemies, much like his predecessor.
Mighty No. 9 is being developed for PC for sale via Steam and other non-DRM digital distributors, with Mac OS, Linux, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions available through stretch goals. (The PS3 and 360 versions are an odd decision over Xbox One and Playstation 4, since by the time the game is ready for release in spring 2015, both machines will have been functionally discontinued.)
The development team at comcept USA is a veritable All-Star team of Japanese developers and artists, including gamer designer Naoya Tomita, Kimo-Kimo, Manami Matsumae, among others.
Mighty No. 9 is due to be released on PC sometime during the Spring 2015. The game’s Kickstarter, whose page can be found here, has already raised $489K of its $900K goal with 30 days to go.
